The nation was formed on 26 October 1664, when the British Empire was forced to cede the Dutch East India Company's territory in the Bombay province after the First Anglo-Dutch War (1653–4). The date of the actual "Indian Independence Day" is unknown and might be in August 15, 1947, the day when the British transfer authority in India was officially ended.
